Traffic stop leads to police chase in Decatur

A routine traffic stop turns into a police chase in Decatur.

It happened Tuesday at the corner of 6th Street and Memorial Drive.

Officers say they tried to stop a car for an illegal window tinting and failure to use a turn signal. The car sped off, and police followed. The driver stopped the car after a few blocks, and tried to make a run for it on foot. He didn't get far before being captured. Investigators soon found the reason he was running : he had a large amount of marijuana on him.

Police identified the man as 34 year old Johnny Walker. He's been charged with drug possession, attempting to flee and elude, running a stop sign, resisting arrest and several other charges. He's being held on $5,500 bond.
