Authorities hope to keep allegedly violent teen in jail | News

MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- Authorities are working to keep a man charged with arson and attempted murder in two separate cases in jail.

Cullman County investigators say 18-year-old Jeremy West set fire to a neighbor's home to cover up a burglary in Vinemont.    

This crime happened while he was out on bail for an attempted murder charge out of Morgan County.

West had made bail in the Morgan County case, but he has a $70,000 bond in Cullman County in the arson case. Investigators are working with the Morgan County district attorney and the courts to get his bond revoked, to keep him in custody.

Investigators said he slashed a man's throat in March. The bond for that was $30,000. 

The home in Vinemont belongs to an elderly couple who authorities said had just canceled their insurance policy.

Morgan County authorities say it's evident West is too violent to be on the streets, so they're moving to get Judge Steven Haddock to either raise his bond in Cullman County or revoke it.

"He's charged with attempted murder. While he's out on bond, he's burglarized someone's home and actually burned their home down. I just feel like he's been looked at and, apparently, he's going to be a threat to society," said Morgan County Investigator Chad Smith.
