Become a friend of Decatur Public Library

Become a friend of Decatur Public Library

By Bobby Shuttleworth

The financially struggling Decatur Public Library is looking for ways to stretch their dollars.

Library officials say the number of people visiting the library is up because of job seekers and people using their computers to do online courses.

Library Director Sandy McCandles said right now they're doing more with less, like not refilling positions after someone retires, but next year that could change.

"Without more funds in the next year, we will have to cut the book budget out entirely or I'll have to close hours and lay off employees," said McCandles.

McCandles said you can help by becoming a "friend" of the library. Donations go toward buying e-books, audio books, and other library needs.
