Rain Moving Out Soon

Rain Moving Out Soon

A surface low dug into the Valley Sunday afternoon.  Two tornado warnings were issued.  One for Limestone and one for Limestone and Morgan Counties.  Funnel clouds had been spotted and rotation was tracked on Live Stormtracker Doppler.  However, no actural tornadoes or damage was ever reported or confirmed.

Patchy rain will continue overnight in some areas of the Valley.  Tomorrow the surface low and associated front will push east of our area.  We'll be on the back side of this system, and will still be picking up spotty areas of showers throughout the day.  Skies will be mainly cloudy much of Monday.

Rainfall amounts have varied greatly across the Valley.  We've seen trace amounts in Sand Mountain up to around 3 inches up to 3 inches in some areas of The Shoals and the Metro.

A Wet Mother's Day Weekend

A Wet Mother's Day Weekend

A surface low on the coast is moving our way right now.  Moisture levels will be on the increase around here throughout today as the system nears.  Rain and storms will be possible not only this afternoon but in fact, chances go up as the low moves closer to us by tonight.

Tonight and into Mother's Day our chances for rain and storms will be much improved.  Still not anticipating severe weather, but gusty winds and heavy rainfall will be our primary threats.

Today's rainfall will be fairly light since we are not expecting much until later today and this evening. Rain could total one to three inches in some areas of the Valley by tomorrow night.

There may be some flooding in low-lying parts of the Valley.  Rain should begin tapering off Sunday evening with improving condtions much of next week.

Slight Risk for the Valley

Slight Risk for the Valley

Warm-moist air on top of the Valley for another day.  As the sunshine warms us up on Sunday, instability will be on the rise, especially in the afternoon.  Storms will be scattered and may begin developing around the lunch hour and into the res of the afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has Eastern parts of the state under a Slight RIsk for severe weather thoughout the day on Sunday.  Some storms may produce strong gusty winds, hail, and cloud-to-ground lightning.

Otherwise fair and muggy all day long.  Patchy fog to start the day and then sunshine warms temperatures into the upper 80s later in the day.

A Stormy Start to the New Week

A Stormy Start to the New Week

Rain and storms heading for the Valley tonight and Monday Morning.  And although some storms may be severe, our main threat will be gusty winds and heavy rainfall.  In fact, there is a slight risk for severe weather tonight, but it is only for folks to our west.

The line of showers and storms should begin moving into the Shoals first, Monday morning.  Between 12 and 2pm rain and storms begin rolling into the Metro.  And between 2 and 6pm showers and storms head through Sand Mountain.  Some storms could be severe in the afternoon with daytime heating creating a little more instabilty.  But once again, our primary threats  will be gusty winds and heavy rain.
