GOWENSVILLE, SC- A FOX Carolina viewer took these pictures of the aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Light, in the mountains of Greenville County, SC on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011.

The mid-South was surprised Monday night with a rare sighting of the aurora borealis, or Northern Light, and forecasters say the effect could make a second appearance Tuesday night.
